More than 100 Aurora University student-athletes, staff members, and guests hand-tied 92 fleece blankets for needy kids Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The school’s 21st annual Project Linus took place on Lancaster Court in Thornton Gymnasium at Alumni Hall of Physical Education in Aurora.

Aurora U.’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee repeated as the sponsor. Morgan Stenson, committee advisor, led the effort.

Participating were members of the school’s athletic teams, athletic training students, athletic department staff, physical education department staff and Aurora University community members.

Stenson said blankets take from five to 15 minutes to make, depending on how many people are working together in teams.

According to Stenson, completed blankets will be donated to Rush-Copley Memorial Hospital’s Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center in Aurora which had a few workers and volunteers on hand to help.

Material for the blankets came from Joann Fabrics in Aurora, an annual contributor. Student volunteers donate $1 each for fabric.

A scoreboard in the corner of the gym featured a running clock that was counting down the hour as well as the current total of blankets finished.

In 2020, Aurora University students made and donated 107 blankets to patients at Rush-Copley’s Cancer Care Center.
