Approximately 400 homemade buttermints came out of an Aurora oven recently for the 19th annual cookie and candy sale at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora.
The sweets, in pink, green, yellow and white hues for the holidays, are an annual highlight of a sale sponsored by the church’s United Women in Faith chapter, a service group.
Emmy Lou John, UWF president, said she and Mari Curless, another Wesley member, produced the mints in about four hours. This is the 50th year the duo has produced the sweets.
In addition to the mints, $2 for a plate of 22, other offerings are prepacked boxes of 20 cookies for $11, a half-pound bag of peanut brittle for $4, a bag of bean-soup mix for $3.50 and three rosettes for $2.
The sale is underway with orders being accepted online at givebutter.com/2024 cookies. Prepayments, required, may also be made by sending an order and check to the church, 14. N. May St. in Aurora, IL, 60506. Orders may be picked up from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 7. o orders will be accepted at the door.
Proceeds will benefit WIF mission projects. John said the sale’s goal is $1,000 to support UWF-sponsored programs. Recipes and ingredient lists will be provided.
