The Batavia Park District is placing a $27,140,000 bond referendum on the March 17 ballot to acquire the land, build, and equip an indoor recreational center. The Park Board and staff members want to provide residents with the facts and information needed to make an informed decision for their household in the Spring.

The BARC (Batavia Activity & Recreation Center) has been designed to be the heart of the community, to embody the spirit of recreation, which helps further the mission to encourage a healthier lifestyle that enriches the lives of residents. The facility will be inclusive as well as financially sustainable by offering drop-in, 10-punch or seasonal/annual pass options that accommodate all types of use. The 65,100 square-foot facility would include the following amenities and pass price options (residents/non-residents):

The indoor pool will be 75 feet by 63 feet, which consists of eight lanes that are each seven feet wide and have three-and-a-half feet of additional space at the end of each lane for wave bounce control. There would be spectator viewing that seats roughly 100-150 persons. All eight lanes won’t be roped off, because at least two lanes will be reserved for drop-in swim, swim lessons, or aquatic fitness. The proposed indoor pool presents the opportunity for the School District to rent the pool for its use. Upon successful passage of the referendum, the Park Board and School Board would create an intergovernmental agreement for facility usage, however, the pool will be prioritized first for recreational activities. Daily senior drop-in lap swim ($3/$4), daily adult drop-in lap swim ($4/$5), indoor pool 10 punch pass ($60/$90), individual indoor pool pass (Seasonal-$100/$150; annual-$200/$350), and a family of four indoor pool pass (seasonal-$200/$300; annual-$375/$575).

Roughly 5,700 square feet of the upper level of the BARC will include cardio and commercial strength circuit equipment/machines, which includes dumbbells and group fitness program space. This area will be available during all facility open hours. The proposed facility times would be Monday-Friday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Free weights will be incorporated into the fitness programs. If the referendum passes, the Park District would host focus groups at a later date to discuss the type of equipment and quantity. Daily drop-in ($8/$12), wellness/fitness 10 punch pass ($60/$90), individual wellness/fitness pass (seasonal-$100/$150; annual-$200/$350) and a family of four triple play pass (seasonal-$200/$300; annual-$375/$575). These passes include use of the indoor track.

The indoor track will have plenty of room to either walk or run with two six-feet wide lanes that are nine laps to the mile. Daily use of the track would be $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents. During specific, non-prime time hours, the track will free to the public and always free for seniors who participate in the SilverSneakers program.

The BARC would have an indoor 30 by 45-yard indoor turf field, used for soccer, football, instructional programs, skills training, camp, youth/adult leagues, and open play. This space can accommodate virtually any type of training activity, including strength and conditioning drills, cardio, and calisthenics/bodyweight work. Seasonal floor paneling can be purchased to transform the indoor turf into additional gymnasium space. Daily individual turf drop-in ($6/$9), daily family turf drop-in ($9/$13), open turf 10 punch pass ($42/$63), half-field turf rental ($210/$315) and a full-turf rental ($315/$473).

The multi-activity court gymnasium would have lines to accommodate basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and badminton. Daily individual gym drop-in ($6/$9), daily family gym drop-in ($9/$13), open gym 10 punch pass ($42/$63), or a 2-hour rental ($158/$237).

A triple play pass will be offered so both residents and non-residents can enjoy a combination package that includes the indoor pool, track, and wellness/fitness area. Daily triple play drop-in ($8/$12), individual youth/senior pass (seasonal-$100/$175; annual-$300/$450) individual adult triple play pass (seasonal-$150/$200; annual-$375/$565), and a family of four triple play pass (seasonal-$250/$350; annual-$700/$1,050).

Child care would be offered at the facility for $8 per hour, in a fun play space that doubles as a party room. There will be options to utilize or rent the multi-purpose rooms to fit your needs and common space with café style seating to encourage safe social time for multiple generations.
