Elections can bring a lot of questions: Am I registered to vote? Where is my polling place? How do I research candidates? Answering these questions and navigating the endless amount of information online can be daunting, but the Aurora Public Library District is here to help! Through our Voter Resources webpage and knowledgeable staff, we can connect you with reliable, nonpartisan election information while offering the resources you need to participate confidently in civic life.
Libraries have a long-standing commitment to providing free access to information and teaching people how to evaluate it. “Libraries are already the perfect places to untangle confusion and give guidance to those who may be overwhelmed,” said Teen librarian, Flannery. “We are trained to steer folks in the right direction to find what they need.” But helping people find reliable information is only one part of the library’s role. “A library is also the heart of the community, and we are well-positioned to connect people with each other, with organizations, and with services,” said Genealogy and Community History librarian, Cailin. “We are super enthusiastic about empowering our community to be civically engaged and make their voices heard.”
That dedication to information, connection, and empowerment extends beyond a single library. Through a partnership with neighboring libraries and community organizations, APLD is helping residents prepare for the Midterm Elections with ‘Ready, Set, Vote: A Conversation on Being an Informed Voter’ Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.. During this virtual panel discussion featuring a librarian, an Illinois State Bar Association attorney, and a representative from the League of Women Voters of Illinois, participants will learn how to navigate election information, identify trustworthy sources, and better understand the voting process.

Whether you’re attending the program or exploring resources on your own, we are here to prepare you for Tuesday, Nov. 3. But it’s important to understand what library staff can and cannot do. We can help you apply for a mail-in ballot and find reliable candidate information, but we cannot accept completed ballots or recommend who to vote for. Most importantly, each APLD location has certified deputy registrars who can register you to vote! “In my opinion, the library is the most fun place to register to vote,” added Cailin. “Where else can you register and then go home with a few checked out books, a movie, or a ukulele?”
