Village trustees unanimously approved a resolution to name the restored and illuminated silo tower “Berman Tower” at the North Aurora Village Board meeting, Monday, through the Zoom video conference platform.

The plan is to name the silo behind Harner’s Bakery in North Aurora, near the Fox River close to the intersection of Routes 31 and 56, after retired Village president Dale Berman.

Berman, who retired from the Village Board presidency recently, won a seat on the Kane County Board for District 2. He was the Village president for 16 years after 14 years as a North Aurora Village trustee.

The project could include a playground, series of walkways, seating area, parking, and transformation of the silo into a lighted observation tower. North Aurora officials said they can use grants to help pay for the project.

• At the Committee of the Whole meeting which follows the Village Board meeting, trustees viewed a space needs assessment of the existing Public Works facility presentation by Legat Architects.

Legat recently has completed the assessment and concluded additional space was needed.

The Village Board discussed three options ranging from approximately $8.8 Million to $13.1 Million.

The objective is to create options for accommodating growth and improve department efficiency.

According to North Aurora government documents, plans for a larger facility would address the following objectives: Provide comparable amenities, gender equality, and ADA compliance, promote energy efficiency, dedicated shop space and tool storage, increase indoor storage, a roof over all vehicles, improve security, separate visitors from staff members, good vehicular circulation around the site.

Several trustees expressed support for the $13.1 Million option to address the Village’s growth.
