Bomb threat at Aurora Public Library

At approximately 2:41 p.m. September 12, officers were dispatched to Aurora Public Library District branches after a bomb threat was received through an online source. An evacuation was ordered at all three branches as a precautionary measure while officers investigated. A physical search of each location was conducted, and no devices were found.

Bomb detection canines from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Joliet Police Department also searched the buildings, and no devices were found. Members of the Fox Valley Park District Police Department assisted with evacuations. We would like to thank them and the Aurora Public Library staff for their assistance.

The Santori Public Library at 101 S. River Street was officially cleared at 3:45 p.m., the West Branch at 233 S. Constitution Drive at 4:10 p.m., and the Eola Branch at 555 S. Eola Road at 5:37 p.m.. After each location was cleared, they resumed normal business hours and services.

While this incident appears to be a hoax, the investigation into the bomb threat remains an active investigation.
