A bomb threat was sent to Aurora City Hall and other buildings in Aurora during a visit by congresswoman-elect Lauren Underwood, 14th Congressional District of Illinois, Thursday, Dec. 13. Aurora Police Department personnel are investigating and think it was a part of a nationwide series of bomb threat which appeared to be an extortion/phishing scam.

The threats were made in the afternoon at Aurora City Hall just  a few minutes prior to Underwood’s sharing her plans with community leaders and inspired young female Aurora  high school students  from East Aurora, West Aurora, and Metea Valley. Lauren Underwood was empowered by her ground-breaking and ceiling-shattering journey to the United States Congress in November’s election in which her victory ended incumbent Randy Hultgren’s terms of office.

Between approximately 12:40 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, Aurora Police responded to three calls for bomb threats at various locations in Aurora, including Rush-Copley Hospital in the 2000 block of Ogden Avenue; Earth Movers Credit Union in the 1700 block of N. Farnsworth,  and Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer.

The bomb threats all were received by E-mail and demanded money to be paid in Bitcoins. No bombs were found at any of the facilities and there were no injuries.

More information will be published when it becomes available.
