Do you remember being a child and being excited for the many celebrations throughout the year? Whether it was a friend’s birthday party, a storytime at the library or simply the fact that your mom or dad said you could have ice cream for dessert, when you’re a kid, that’s a party.

Well, how would you feel if you had one day just to celebrate you. Not just your birthday. Think bigger. What if there was a day where you got a high five, a gift, or a party simply for being a child.

Well that day is here! At the Aurora Public Library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28 in the Santori Library rooms 125/126 you can celebrate El Dia del Niño or Children’s Day.

El Dia del Niño is traditionally celebrated April 30 as a tribute to children in Mexico. This day is centered around children to include games, gifts, and clowns. It’s not only a celebration, it reinforces the importance of children’s well-being.

At the Aurora Public Library we’re excited to keep this tradition going and celebrate all of the children in Aurora. We will have a puppet play in Spanish, led by the talented Jose Antonio Gasca from el Instituto Estatal de la Cultura de Guanajuato (the State Institute for Culture of Guanajuato).

This family-friendly performance is for all ages and about 40 minutes long. Be prepared to enjoy entertainment filled with music, jokes, and interaction with the audience.

Mariana Guerrero, Spanish language programmer at the Santori Library in Aurora said, “We are very lucky to have this type of entertainment from Guanajuato, Mexico. Jose Antonio Gasca teaches at Dieterich Elementary school in Aurora and that makes it even more fun.”
