Community events always important

Most of life, whether or not we acknowledge it, is a learning experience, good, bad, or, indifferent. How well we celebrate the joyous occasions, or, apply bad situations into improvement, are the challenges. Some of us never want to learn and grow, others of us seek to apply, learn, and grow. Life is filled with situations, big and small. Where and how we go with it is up to us by limiting our frustrations and deriving a sense of independence.

We seek to create a balance in The Voice, not only in our coverage, perspectives, and issues, but in fairness and the views of other individuals and organizations. We seek the same from others.

Part of the role of The Voice is community events with First Call and Fundraiser forum each week. Following here are some items which require extra attention for a variety of reasons. With that in mind, consider these items:

Banana Split opens February 29

Banana Split will be open for the season Thursday, Feb. 29. The ice cream shop and restaurant in Aurora hours will be from noon to 9 p.m. daily. They have been making memories since 1983.

Marmion Academy Fish Fry Fundraiser

Marmion Academy’s Fishing Team is having its annual Lenten Fish Fry Fundraiser from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora Drive thru pick-up only at each meal is $15 and includes three pieces of Sgt. Dotson’s Famous Fried Catfish, French fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and a dinner role. Meals must be purchased in advance at www.marmion.or/fish fry. Al proceeds benefit Marmion’s Fishing team.

Plano American Legion Corned Beef Dinner

The Plano American Legion Post 395 is inviting the public to a corned beef and cabbage dinner Saturday, March 16, at the Plano American Legion Post 395, 510 E. Dearborn. Dinner is corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and dessert for a donation of $18 per dinner. A great dinner with participation in raffles and door prizes. Volunteers to clean up Trails, Path

In honor of Earth Day; the Friends of the Great Western Trails has scheduled its annual trails cleanup for Saturday, April 27. The goal this year is to clean all the trails, including both sections of the Great Western Trail (GWTs) from Villa Park to Sycamore. GWT wants everyone to help us and pick up litter along these trails. Bring friends and family, along with work gloves and garbage bags.
