Community spirit at work in several ways evident

September 11, 2001 to September 11, 2023. In 22 years at the historic devastation at the World Trade Center little has changed for the feeling generated by the American people. It is unlikely to change for at least another generation. It could be close to the year 2050 prior to a sense of change detected by historians.
Aurora, Elgin, St. Charles, Elburn, were among the communities to hold commemorations. Aurora at 7:30 a.m. at the Aurora Central Fire Station. Elgin at 9 a.m. at the Hemmens Cultural Center. St. Charles at 7:30 a.m. at the Fire Department Memorial Monument. Elburn’s two presentations were in the middle of the day by the Town and Country Public Library District at The Mary Lunn Alms Educational Center.
History shows us we go through a few main events during our lifetimes, often tragic and cataclysmic events. Such is the case with 9/11. Those of us who understood its importance always will recall our situations and circumstances when it happened.

The changes in living during the coronavirus altered many circumstances. The increase in visitor spending in Aurora in 2022 likely is because of the passing of time following the coronavirus. Other factors likely were involved, as well, however, the Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau recently reported an increase in visitor spending in the State. The boost in tourism contributed $13 million in tax revenue and added 3,000 jobs in tourism and hospitality in Illinois. The increase reported in Aurora by county included: DuPage County, travel expenditures a 33% increase, $59.82 million, tax revenue increased by 22%, $3 million; Kane County travel expenditures increased by 30%, $115.22 million; tax revenue increased 25%, $6.8 million; Kendall County: Travel expenditure up 30%, $115.22 million; local tax revenue up 18% and $3.2 million.

Positive civic expression at work evolved recently at the Oswego Planning and Zoning commission meeting to understand and offer input at the proposed Breybourne Cricket Stadium north of the northwest intersection of U.S. Route 34 and Orchard Road. Zoning changes would be required if the stadium were approved near single-family housing. The Oswego Planning and Zoning commission approved the special use permit to be considered at the next Oswego Village Board meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 19. Community spirit at work by many residents who turned out for the zoning meeting.
