The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley will bring about an awareness of diabetes during two annual Fourth of July celebrations in Aurora. The Club will participate in the Fourth of July parade, which will start at 10 a.m. at Benton and Broadway, march north on Broadway, west on Downer and end at Middle Avenue. Members participating in the parade will be handing out bottles of bubbles to children.
Immediately after the parade, it’s off to the Tanner House Museum, on the corner of Oak and Cedar, for an old-fashioned picnic complete with music, magic, a petting zoo, games, house tours, a blueberry-pie-eating contest, and at 1 p.m., the Ringing of the Bells, by all the children present. Immediately following the bell-ringing, the American Legion Band will strike up a patriotic concert. Be sure to bring a chair. The picnic is free of charge to attend. Hot dogs, chips, beverages and Oberweis ice cream, will be available for purchase.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, working to bring about an awareness of diabetes, while providing aid and education for diabetics, along with investing in research to find a cure. The Club will be participating in several events throughout the Summer months in the Fox Valley area, reminding everyone to be aware of the dangers of unchecked diabetes. Everyone should take time to be checked yearly for diabetic or pre-diabetic conditions.
The members are looking forward to their “Kane County Cougars Diabetes Awareness Fundraiser” with fireworks, Saturday, Aug. 5, at Northwestern Medicine Field, Kirk Road, Geneva. First pitch will be at 6:30 p.m.; contact Jenny McCain 630-204-1197 for tickets, $15 per person.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month at the historic Gray’s Mill Estate, 211 N. River Street, Montgomery. Social/dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.; guests are always welcome!
