World War II commander Donald Thompson, U.S. Navy, offers a salute between innings of the Chicago Cubs baseball game at Chicago White Sox Saturday, Sept. 22. The Montgomery resident was introduced at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago as the Hero of the Game for his military service. He is a member of the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club which meets at VFW Post 7452 in Montgomery at 7 a.m. every other Thursday.
