Earth Day, April 22, U.S. representatives Randy Hultgren (R-IL-14) and Ed Perlmutter (D-CO-07) together joined the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus. Co-chaired by congressman Ted Deutch (D-FL-22) and congressman Carlos Curbelo (R-FL-26), the Caucus has 74 members, split evenly between Democrats and Republicans, representing diverse districts from across the country.
“My State, our Nation, and our world are blessed with an abundance of resources and natural beauty, and it is our responsibility to be good stewards of creation. Maintaining this gift demands smart, forward-looking solutions,” said Hultgren, member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. “The people I represent have shown they want new, innovative solutions and more choices in the energy they consume. I have consistently advocated for more fiscal federalism so local communities can make decisions that make sense for them. For example, I have seen first hand how communities like St. Charles, working with the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, have deployed solar energy. I look forward to my continued work with Perlmutter and others on the caucus to ensure our national labs are working well and open to the public. In the last Congress, we worked together to get legislation out of the House to modernize the labs and make it easier to get new technologies out to the market, and that will be a priority of mine on the Climate Solutions Caucus.”
Congressman Perlmutter said, “Our climate is changing and already impacting communities in Colorado and across the world. We need to be discussing bipartisan solutions to reduce human impact on the planet to preserve our environment for future generations. My district is home to the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) which is an economic engine for our community and the world’s premier lab for energy efficiency and developing clean and renewable energy technologies. National labs like NREL play an important role in supporting American technological innovation and advancing energy efficiency measures. I look forward to working with my colleagues, like Hultgren, as part of this caucus as we continue to pursue clean energy policies to reduce the serious threat of climate change.”
The mission of the Climate Solutions Caucus is to educate members on economically-viable options to reduce climate risk and to explore bipartisan policy options that address the impacts, causes and challenges of our changing climate. As determined by the co-chairs, the Caucus membership will consist of equal representation by Democrats and Republicans.
