Elgin Symphony Orchestra: Two April concerts

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra (ESO) has announced two April concerts that feature music familiar across genres and for all ages.

Friday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m., the ESO will present Friday Favorites: Music You Know – Spring Edition, at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, 1280 Summit St. The concert will feature favorites from theater (Overture to “The Barber of Seville,” Grieg’s “Morning Mood”), American traditions (Florence Prices’ “Suite of Dances”, Copland’s “Simple Gifts”), dance music from Dvořák and Brahms, and Grainger’s traditional Irish melody “Danny Boy”, along with many other familiar pieces.

Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m., at the Barrington Area Library, the ESO will present a free, family-friendly concert, Sounds of the Seasons: Spring. Gene Collerd, clarinet; Scott Metlicka, flute; and Collin Anderson, bassoon, will perform the first movement from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” John W. Bratton’s “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic,” “A Whole New World” from the Disney movie “Aladdin,” Jimmy McHugh’s “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” and other seasonal favorites. Registration is required. Seating is limited.
