There will be a drive-thru shoe-collection at Aurora’s GreenFest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. There will be no landfill for these shoes.

The 10th annual GreenFest will be at the Prisco Community Center and McCullough Park, 150 W. Illinois Avenue in Aurora. The GreenFest is free and accessible to everyone, including families. The GreenFest greeters’ booth will provide a copy of the program. The GreenFest will celebrate with a green cake at noon at the Prisco Center.

Every pair of shoes, even extremely well-worn shoes, helps the community through Wayside Cross Ministries (WCM) Hope Outreach Division. Worn out and with holes, they’ll take them, too.

WCM will have drive-thru bins at the Prisco Community Center.

The Aurora GreenFest is a portal to the businesses and organization that are making communities greener and building a sustainable future.

WCM Board member John Ross is excited about the potential of these donations. He has created a Twitter hash tag, #mostuglyshoes, to generate conversation about this shoe campaign. Which church, group, or individual, can have the ugliest shoe in Aurora?

These shoes are either placed in one of WCM’s two resale stores, or recycled.

Shoes can be donated at Wayside Cross Ministries, 215 E. New York Street, west entrance at the donation loading dock.

More information on WCM can be obtained at www.waysidecross.org.

The GreenFest will include solar panels, electric cars, energy-efficient ideas, activities for the kids, nature-related hawks, eagles, turtles, and snakes, climate conversations, and help with growing food.
