Topics this week include the sizzling Summer heat factor, a pause on politics for the middle of the Summer, one year away from national political conventions, and finding last- gasp items for those who soon will focus on back-to-school, the latter a natural topic when the calendar relentlessly turns to the month of August. Naturally, we look for august items to be important and well-regarded in any dimension.
Nonetheless, let us consider:
- Receiving a report from Marissa Amoni, or, Marissa Bright Public Relations. “The Summer Jam Outdoor Festival will start at 7 p.m. Friday, July 28 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, N.Y. racetrack which brought together icons, Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, and The Band. In Aurora July 28 this year will be The Venue, Peach Jam, Cream Puff Warriors, Scott Tipping, at the The Venue, 21 S. Broadway, Aurora, adjacent to Mundy Park. The Summer Jam will pay tribute to the epic concert from 50 years ago listed above. It is not Watkins Glen, N.Y. and is Aurora, home to parts of four counties, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will.
- The Naperville Park District promotes movies in the park at the Summer Outdoor Movie Series which will be at 8:30 p.m. at Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Avenue. Sue Osmanson tells us that family-friendly movies are free at the parks. Movie: : The Rise of Gru was set for Friday, July 28. The audience should bring folding chairs and/or blankets.
- More Naperville: The 10th Annual Junior Tour de Naperville will Saturday, Aug. 12 at Wolf’s Crossing Community Park for kids 3-to-12-years-old to ride their bicycles, big wheels, or, tricycles around the 1.2-mile trail in front of family and friends. There will be separate starts; 3-5-year-olds at 9a.m.; 6-to-8-year-olds at 10 a.m. and 9-to-12-year-olds at 11 a.m. and the older kids will receive a challenge to go around the course as many times as possible.
- The Taste of St. Mary Summerfest in Plano will be Saturday, Aug. 12 from noon to 8 p.m. and promotes free admission. There will be a car show, live music, food and drinks, open mic, face-painting, balloon-twisting, photo booth fun, arts, crafts, raffles, prizes and performance by Rays of Hope. Summer fun!
