Twenty years after six Aurora firefighters left home to assist in New York City following the September 11 attacks, five more Aurora firefighters answered Tuesday morning this week another national call to assist.
Personifying the motto, “Forever Ready to Serve,” Aurora Fire Department leaders, left to right in the adjacent photo, Firefighter/Paramedic Taylor Peterson, Lieutenant Dave Heinke, Firefighter Keith O’Donnell, Firefighter Matt Acuff, and Battalion Chief Matt Anslow left Auroraas part of a statewide deployment effort to assist with fire and medical protection in Hurricane Ida-struck areas throughout Louisiana.
They follow in the heroic footsteps of six more Aurora firefighters who will be honored this weekend during Aurora’s September 11 20th Anniversary Commemoration. See above.
