Four of five candidates for Aurora alderman race denied for incorrect filing of nomination papers

Ross D. Secler, left, Chicago election law and campaign finance attorney, advises the city of Aurora Municipal Officers Electoral Board at one of five hearings for aldermanic candidates in Aurora at City Hall, Wednesday, Dec. 19. Board members are: Mayor of Aurora, Richard Irvin, Aurora alderman-at-large, Robert O’Connor, and Wendy McCambridge, city clerk. Candidate for 1st Ward, Peter Aguilera, was the only one of five who had objections overruled. Candidates were denied for several reasons regarding rules of filing nomination papers correctly. Nomination papers were denied due to failure to fasten them as required. The aldermanic candidates who were denied for incorrect filing of nomination papers: Hugo Saltijeral, candidate for 1st Ward; Valerie Budach, candidate for 1st Ward; John Robinson, candidate 8th Ward; and Paul J. Santucci, candidate for 1st Ward. All races for Aurora aldermen have fewer than five candidates each, therefore, a primary in February 2019 will not be held. Jason Crane/The Voice
