The Fox Valley Folklore Society will host a free concert presentation led by award-winning songwriter, storyteller, and cultural leader Chris Vallillo Sunday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Tobias Music, 5013 Fairview Ave., Downers Grove.
In this program, Chris Vallillo performs a wide range of material, starting with The Revolutionary War, through the political songs of the 19th Century, the Dust Bowl ballads of Woody Guthrie, right on up to the protest songs of the 1950s and 1960s. Combining well-known and obscure pieces, Vallillo will share the music, history, and the back stories of the songs that shaped the course of our Nation over the past 250 years on a variety of instruments, including guitar, skinhead banjo, Dobro, and others.
This program is open to all interested how folk music can reflect social and community issues.
