Noted businessman, Dr. Willie Wilson is working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by donating face masks. He is extending his efforts beyond his Chicago base into the State’s second-largest city, Aurora.

Dr. Wilson is collaborating with Aurora mayor, Richard C. Irvin, to donate 100,000 face masks to the residents of Aurora.

“I am proud to donate these face masks to help save lives and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Wilson.

“I am moved by compassion and a deep sense of responsibility to make this donation to my dear friend, mayor Richard Irvin, and the people of Aurora.”

Dr. Wilson’s donation will include large allotments to Aurora nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and senior residential locations, with an initial distribution being available for the general Aurora community this weekend.

“We are absolutely grateful to Dr. Wilson for his generous donation to Aurora,” said mayor Irvin.

“We know how important it is for everyone to wear masks and face coverings as we fight COVID-19 in our communities. We also know supplies are low, while the demand is high. Dr. Wilson has helped to make sure those who need masks in Aurora can receive them.”

Both Dr. Wilson and mayor Irvin will welcome residents during the Free Masks Drive-Thru Giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16 at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway, in downtown Aurora.

Volunteers will distribute packaged masks to participants during the first-come, first-served, in-and-out process. No identification is necessary. Traffic flow will be conducted by the Aurora Police Department and the Aurora Emergency Management Agency.

Since the COVID-19 crisis began, Dr. Wilson has donated millions of face masks to residents of Illinois and more than $1 Million to churches in need.

To date, Aurora has had more than 1,800 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and sadly 38 Aurorans have died from the virus through Monday.

“Help to protect yourself, your family and our community by picking up free face masks this weekend,” said mayor Irvin.
