Aurora’s Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry opened a series of seven free outdoor cooking classes by area chefs Saturday, June 15.
The inaugural class, “Easy Summer Salads,” took place at Marie’s Garden Kitchen, 835 N. Highland Avenue in Aurora, part of an urban farm affiliated with the pantry on Aurora’s west side. The class was part of a pop-up market with local vendors and children’s activities.
Chef/dietician Julia Rudnicki used fresh ingredients from Marie’s garden to prepare two salads and a sauce. They were Parsley Tabbouleh and dill cucumber tomato salads and Tzaziki sauce. During her presentation, the senior at University of Alabama offered samples to the audience. She closed by distributing recipes. Rudnicki was assisted by Rebekah Axtell, pantry communications specialist.
