State representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, is highlighting a program from the Illinois State Dental Society (IDIS) to provide free dental care to veterans in November.

“Unfortunately, many veterans are overlooked when it comes to medical coverage and their dental needs after they finish serving our country,” Kifowit said. “I would like to commend the IDIS for taking a step in the right direction to honor and provide for many veterans who have been neglected common dental treatment.”

The IDIS’ November initiative aims to serve veterans of the United States military who often struggle with poverty, disabilities, and other illnesses with quality, free-dental care. Veterans who partake in the program are asked to provide a military ID at the scheduled appointment. “Dental hygiene is extremely important to one’s health,” Kifowit said. “Neglected dental needs can lead to more serious infections and poor health throughout the entire body, and these men and women deserve much better than to be overlooked. I encourage any Illinois veteran who has concerns about critically-needed dental services to please make an appointment through the IDIS and receive the care they deserve.”
