Gauging Success

Share this article:

It’s hard to grade intelligence, its worth;
But that is what we try to do from birth.
A figure, by itself, is always found;
But often now with walls in which it’s bound.

Like this: What good is it if it’s not used?
How can we tell if that is not accused?
Is that how we will rate potential here,
Oblivious to points we should well fear?

Desire, influence, and ability
Depend on being where you have to be,
To then accomplish what will make your name,
Though it may just be good opposed to fame.

Success is not seen being under par;
Or being way above us all by far.
In fact, a very human trait is seen:
Acceptance must be first for it to mean.

Ability to climb a ladder known
Requires the ladder to be there and shown.
What all this does come down to, you may see,
May simply be the opportunity!
