Late October is greater than being on the eve of Halloween. We are less than two months away from Christmas and other significant holidays. Rather than thinking of the joy of little kids, we have an opportunity to think of those who are less fortunate in either or both, a spiritual way or a material way. In essence it means a sense of giving
Rather than listing specific cases or individuals, each of us can identify persons and/or situations in which we can be an advocate, or, be helpful. We do understand the true meaning of Christmas if we will be honest and helpful. We can make lists and check twice to think of others. In two months we can understand our perspective within the meaning of Christmas spirit.
Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May Street in Aurora, will celebrate Halloween with an annual Trunk or Treat celebration Sunday, Oct. 29. The family-friendly event will be held from 12:30p.m. to2:30p.m. in the Church parking lot. The public is invited. Vehicles will be decorated.
The City government of Aurora will be host to the inaugural City of Lights Film Festival in the evening, Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4. Sites will be Aurora Public Art, 20 E. Downer Place Friday, Nov. 3 and Aurora Regional Fire Museum, 53 N. Broadway, Saturday, Nov.4 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for he movie fest. Other sites will be Paramount School of the Arts, 20 S. Stolp and Waubonsee Community College, 18 S. River Street. Films will include Bike Vessel; Canary; Rounding; The Gullspang Miracle; The Old Oak; Totem. The inaugural event might worth a look, literally.
Considering the plight of the many individuals under siege in the Middle East nearly the last three weeks three weeks, many of us, no, most of us, should understand our good fortune in not having to deal with war, famine, and oppressive governments. can be helpful without being dragged into a war situation. Most of the years in the last century, or more, the world has suffered war situations. We do our best by standing strong yet, staying out of war.
The Aurora Lions Club will hold its annual Pumpkin pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 28. It is a delicious fundraiser.
