Whew! The requests for Giving Tuesday filled the E-mail in-box in more than a few corners, no doubt. There are many good causes and the need is great. We should appreciate those who depend on charitable giving to be sustained. The need exceeds one day.

First it was Black Friday, then Shop Small Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday, formed a quartet of special days relevant to business gain and non-profit sustain.

It has become a fixture in short order and, as a society, we relish and participate in its advancement. For many years Black Friday was when retail businesses traditionally went out of the red lost-profit column into the sustaining black side of the ledger.
It took many years for the next three themes to develop and they are relevant.

We should focus on the Giving Tuesday theme. Each week in The Voice at least a column is on page 17 for those who seek to raise funds. Most of the items have important needs to be met and we want their causes to receive publicity. Other articles and notices receive a strain of helpfulness for those in need.

Here are a few items which should receive attention among many:

• The Aurora Public Library Foundation will hold a We Care Together Party and Auction from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Santori Public Library of Aurora, 101 S. River Street, Aurora. Alarm Detection Systems, Inc. and Reuland Food Service are title sponsors for the event. Laura Stoney promises a night of fun, food, open bar, and auctions. Proceeds will be a benefit for early literacy, scholarships, homebound residents, and technology. Cost is $50. each.

• Grace Holistic Center for Education will hold Games for Grace, which will be a benefit for the Grace Holistic Center for Education (GHCE) in Yorkville. The school is in its second year and has made sound progress for good education. Starting a private school is not the easiest task. The event will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Sons of Amvets, 1194 Jericho Road, Aurora. Games for Grace will include a focus of raising money to support student success at the school. Raffle tickets for cash prizes are available.

Many needs are great and we should be helping.
