The days are finally
stretching above 50°F after our long, extended Winter this year. One of the best things about the app
roaching warm days and nights of Summer is enjoying music at Millennium Plaza in downtown Aurora.
This year, the free concert season will begin at the Food Truck Festival Friday, May 4. Patrons are encouraged to grab a bite to eat on Benton Street and go north on Stolp Avenue to the perfectly situated plaza gazebo along the Fox River and adjacent to Leland Tower.
Performing this year at Millennium Plaza will be Sweet-T at 6 p.m. and Nashon Holloway at 8 p.m.
Sweet-T is a culmination of decades of experience and musical styles put together in a one-of-a-kind trio package. Sweet-T is made up of the dynamic husband and wife duo Bill and Melanie Thompson known as The Thompson Duo along with drummer/percussionist extraordinaire Ken Schultz.
Sweet-T performs music that transcends genres and spans over six decades. From jazz standards, country, classic and h
ard rock to modern music of all styles, they create a memorable musical experience.
With appearances at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and on the Oprah Winfrey Show, it’s a thrill to have Nashon Holloway perform in downtown Aurora. Holloway is well-versed in jazz, soul, and funk music, and she will bring a little bit of everything to the Plaza.
Hailing from Kalamazoo, Mich., Holloway is based in Chicago and released her debut album “The Palace and The Hut” in 2016. Holloway is a “crisp, forceful” singer/songwriter, according to NPR Music, and although she describes her music as soul, Holloway notes the influences of ro
ck, jazz, and funk in her genuine sound.
The evening, filled with music, food, and community, is sure to be a great one in downtown Aurora. Concert dates, along with the complete summer music lineup, is available at www.aurora
downtown.org, including the free, Summer concert series Wednesdays at the Plaza and t
he Illinois Bicentennial birthday bash June 1.
