Holiday lights: Big Timber

As the days count down to 2022, they are counting down to the end of Big Timber Brilliance Holiday Light Show in Elgin. The mile-long, professionally illuminated walking trail will end Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022. It is just off I-90 at Camp Big Timber in Elgin at 37W955 Big Timber Road.

Guests aren’t just warmed by the cozy lodge at the beginning and end of the trail loop, the roaring bonfire or the gourmet hot chocolate. Visitors of all ages are comforted by the glow of more than one dozen large-scale light structures, including selfie-worthy tunnels and word displays.

“This is awesome!” said Jessica from Elgin. “This is the first year of doing this and they smashed it!”

“What a great experience!” said Mike from Batavia, “My family and I had really a great time walking through all the display and lighted tunnels!”

However, there’s even more to this light show burning down below. Big Timber Brilliance supports youth programs as a fundraiser for Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America. All proceeds from the lighted walking trail go directly to providing Summer camps, merit badge classes, and other programming for boys and girls in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, and Kendall Counties.

“Not only is the light show one of the best in the (Elgin) area, it goes directly to helping young people learn new skills, meet new friends, and gain new experiences they would’ve likely never had otherwise,” said Three Fires Council Scout Executive Clint Scharff. “Its serving two purposes at once: Providing a fun family activity during the holidays and supporting activities for those same families throughout the year.”

Big Timber Brilliance is open now through Jan. 2, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly. The show will closed December 31 for New Years Eve.

Tickets can be purchased online at BigTimberBrilliance.org.
