Are you considering buying a house, but need more guidance?
The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20 will provide a Home Buying information session. Viewers can learn about the pros and cons of owning a home, the application process, loans, how to get the best rate and more information. The program is presented by KCT Credit Union, in partnership with the office of State representative Barbara Hernandez. Anyone can join without registration by visiting APLD’s Facebook page during the program. To watch the program on Zoom, please register at www.aurorapubliclibrary.org/event/4890192.
If you have many questions about home ownership, you’re not alone. Through community conversations with Library customers and non-Library customers alike, Krista Danis, events & program coordinator at APLD, observed that many in Aurora have difficulty navigating the home-buying process, particularly those who have limited financial options, or are first-time buyers. It’s something Danis knows well, because she’s looking to buy a new home.
When speaking of the benefit, Home Buying will offer uncertain buyers such as her, Danis said, “It would have been nice to know that we are in a seller’s market prior to our decision to sell, knowing we would have to buy. Likewise, I had no idea what an Appraisal Gap Assurance is in a contract and how it would impact the strength of my offer, or the terms of my loan. A program such as this will be invaluable to me as I continue to work through these uncertainties!”
The program is presented by KCT Credit Union in partnership with the office of State representative Barbara Hernandez. KCT Credit Union is a nonprofit that focuses on providing [their] members and communities with financial resources on a variety of topics.
APLD has worked with KCT Credit Union and representative Hernandez on several projects in the past. Representative Hernandez participated in an empowering Women in Leadership panel that APLD offered in 2019. Both KCT Credit Union and representative Hernandez were partners with APLD for a successful paper recycling Shred Event last September. The Shred Event will be held again Saturday, Sept. 18. Keep checking APLD’s Events page for more details!
The Home Buying program is the second part of a financial literacy series presented in partnership with KCT Credit Union and representative Hernandez. The first installment, Managing Debt so it Doesn’t Manage You!, offered sessions in Spanish and English and has reached more than 50 viewers, a number that continues to grow because many APLD virtual programs can be viewed after the event on the APLD YouTube channel.
After registering for Home Buying and catching up on some past virtual financial literacy programs, why not stop by the library for other home-buying resources and books? As of May 10, appointments for the Browse & Go program and public computers were no longer required!
