Organizations and businesses in Will County came together Saturday, Sept. 11 for the Fifth Annual Homes for the Hounds event. Homes for the Hounds supports Habitat for Humanity’s vision: “A world where everyone deserves a decent place to live”.

Proceeds from this year’s event supporting Will County Habitat for Humanity’s mission to provide affordable housing in Will County, and the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center Paws-4 Kids program.

At the Saturday event, 11 teams built unique dog houses, which are on display at Will County Habitat for Humanity’s Joliet ReStore, 1395 N. Larkin Ave. Joliet until September 25. Dog house themes ranged from log cabin retreat to Caesars Palace mini replica. According to Heidi Serena, ReStore Manager “It’s wonderful to see all the creativity each team displayed and how this event brings the community together for a great cause.”

Nicole Murray, Will County Habitat for Humanity executive director, commented on the event sponsors and volunteers saying “We couldn’t do anything without the support of the Will County community. From event volunteers, companies donating food, like TCBY’s donating frozen yogurt, the Joliet Firefighters letting children explore the firetruck, the teams who volunteered their time and talents to build the amazing dog houses and all the corporate sponsors for today’s occasion, couldn’t happen without the love and support from everyone.”

Those interested may go on the Joliet ReStore Facebook page to bid on one of these awesome homes for a four-legged friend.
