Young athletes from across the area are invited to Yorkville Christian for the sixth annual Hoops 4 Hunger Basketball Camp, Saturday, Aug. 1, for a day of basketball instruction and community service.
Hosted by Yorkville Christian alumnus Micah Schnyders, the camp is open to boys and girls entering kindergarten through 12th grade, with sessions scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade and from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for students entering grades seven through 12.
Organizers said campers will receive even more time on the court this year while the registration fee remains at $20 per participant. Participants are encouraged to pre-register and are also asked to bring at least one food item to support local food pantries. Camp organizers noted that additional prizes will be awarded to those who donate extra food items.
The camp will feature basketball fundamentals taught by high school, collegiate and professional coaches, along with guest speakers and a variety of giveaways, including autographed sports memorabilia and tickets. Every participant will also receive a camp T-shirt and a regulation-size basketball as part of the registration.
In addition to providing basketball instruction, the event continues its mission of giving back to the community. All proceeds from the camp, along with the collected food donations, will benefit local food pantries and help support families in need throughout the area.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance by visiting Yorkville Christian’s website (yorkvillechristian.com). Additional information and registration details can be found under the Events tab, where organizers have posted a dedicated Hoops 4 Hunger Basketball Camp page.
