The Aurora Navy League Council 247 will hold its Tuesday, Oct. 18 dinner meeting in the private room of the Riverview Diner, Illinois Route 25 and Mill Street in Montgomery.

A reception will begin promptly at 5 p.m. followed by a meeting at 5:30 p.m. with dinner afterward. The cost is $25 all-inclusive if an entree is ordered, or $20 for the dinner salad featured that evening. Entry is free of charge without food. The meeting will conclude no later than 8 p.m..

You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend the in-person meeting. The general public is welcome.

The after-dinner speaker will be Mr. Eric Weis, Kendall County States Attorney, whose topic will be on the new Illinois SAFE-T Act which is to take effect January 1, 2023. One-hundred of the 102 Illinois States Attorneys oppose this legislation, and more than 20 of them, including Mr. Weis, have filed lawsuits against governor JB Pritzker and the State Legislature to amend the legislation.

This legislation would allow someone to establish residence on your lawn, use it for a toilet, as well, and leave you and the police no remedy. It makes the following non-detainable offenses partial list: Aggravated battery; kidnapping; second degree murder; arson; burglary; drug-induced homicide; and robbery.

All are invited to this event. Only those who order a meal are required to pay for the meal. Others may attend at no-charge. Your personal safety and your loved ones may depend on Mr. Weis and his colleagues’ ability to change or cancel this legislation, so plan to attend.

The Aurora Council is having a membership drive, and will pay half of the first year’s dues for new members. The Navy League meeting Tuesday, Oct. 18 will be an excellent opportunity to attend an interesting event, and determine whether you would like to join permanently.
