Illinois has become the Nation’s busiest tornado state in 2026. The State has reported a record-setting 196 tornadoes as of June 22, far more than any other state, according to data from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center. The Illinois State Climatology Office noted Illinois averages approximately 54 tornadoes in a typical year, making 2026 an exceptionally active season.
