Important items: Kiwanis Aurora to Arts Hall of Fame

Events, comments, perspectives, form important parts of every journalistic endeavor. That includes newspapers, paperless communications, print, or without print. The Voice invites comments from readers, commentaries from writers, and exchanges of ideas. Society is vast, and The Voice is part of the mosaic with our word in print and on the web. Discussions are important to our growth which stimulate thought and an open mind.

Deadlines are a part of the process. We received a photo and information from John Ross after deadline, however, information on Kiwanis Aurora 2023 Winter grant winners are important to acknowledge. Among the grant winners: Rachel Ossyra and Holly Wiggins, Fox Valley Park District Foundation; Mark Zerfas, principal, McDole Elementary School, Becky Greenlee, Kaneland Foundation; Carry Seida, Markland Foundation; Ann Marie Fauske, CASA Kane County; Trish Rooney, Fox Valley United Way SPARK. The objective is to award $15,000 in grants from the Kiwanis Club of Aurora. It is important to be involved and to care enough to do good work.

• The Voice wants to carry notices to be helpful. Most of us have reasons to raise funds. Judd Lofchie is running for East Aurora School Board and will hold a fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Lady T’s Pizzeria & Pub, formerly Mike & Denise’s, 1760 N. Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora. There will free pizza and soda with a cash bar. Judd Lofchie is a man of many talents and interests. He has a large capacity to care and to be involved.

• DuPage County Board chair person Deborah Conroy Tuesday this week announced the formation of an ad-hoc County Board committee to address issues of affordable housing for workers, seniors, disabled, and families, in DuPage County.

• The Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame will hold a gala banquet and awards ceremony Friday, March 31 at Villa Olivia in Bartlett. The celebration honors talented and influential artists in the Fox Valley area. The festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Huntley Brown will provide entertainment. Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Hanson String Quartet will provide entertainment. The 2020 inductees, delayed by COVID-19, are Patrick F. Beckman, Elgin, Kevin Braheny Fortune, Elgin, and Jeffrey Hunt, St. Charles, all performing arts, and visual artists, Vincent S. Chiaramonte, Campton Hills and Joel C. Sheeley, Wheaton. The 2022 inductees: Lucille and Sten Halfvarson, performing arts, Olive Beaupre Miller and Charles Pierce Burton, literary arts, all deceased who resided in Aurora, and visual artist, Joseph Morton (Mort) Luby, Carpentersville. The Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization that gives public recognition to artists in the Fox Valley. A second objective is to ensure a strong cultural legacy for future generations. FoxValleyArtsHallofFame.org.
