IMSA senior gains honors for original research

This corner always will maintain that any person can take a reasonable position, whether in public service, foreign affairs, or in a commentary in any newspaper, find disagreement from another source and remain vindicated for taking a reasonable position. Disagreement is healthy. Sticking to facts is essential. The problem is evident when there is a dispute over the definition of facts. Nonetheless, we welcome a divergence of opinions in The Voice. We do not have to seek agreement and should not be offended when we find disagreement. We can disagree without being disagreeable. We can have our opinions, however, it is essential we do not maintain our own set of facts. That leads to problems.

• Duly noted: A senior at Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, known as IMSA, is among 300 scholars named in Regeneron Science Talent Search. Siddarth Tiwari, 16, was honored for original research and received honors for novel discoveries by young scientists. The project was entitled, “On the Relationship Between Pain Variability and Relief in Randomized Clinical Trials.

• Mooseheart will discontinue its wonderful and successful Holiday Lights Show following 12 successful years. The 2021 show ended December 31, 2021. In place in December this year will be a pancake breakfast with Santa, Saturday, Dec. 10.Executive director Gary Urwiler said, “Overall, we feel very fortunate and blessed by the community for support of our Holiday Lights Show.”

Clear and Concise Week 17 Year 3: Consideration of recently-concocted and less than desirable words ending in ing to include, hosting, partnering, eying: Hosting is an outgrowth of computer collection of websites, however, there is a better sentence structure without using the word hosting. Partnering is a concoction masquerading as an adjective which means in the formulation of a partnership. It is even more heinous than hosting, if possible. Eying is incorrectly used as a verb for watching, or observing. It is the worst of the three, if possible. We should avoid writing or saying hosting, partnering, eying. Best advice is to keep and use host, partner, eye, properly as nouns and construct our sentences to fit with use of the nouns.
