Jay Short of Aurora has earned the 2022-2023 Distinguished Service Award from Aurora Lions Club.
Voted by club members, the award is given annually to a Lion who shows devoted service to the club and Lionism.
Lion Michelle Needham, award coordinator, announced Short’s selection at the club’s annual charter night celebration Dec. 7. Recovering from a medical procedure, Short was unable to attend the event at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora and received his award later.
An Aurora club member since January 2023, Short serves as service chair, event coordinator and newsletter editor. He joins 67 recipients who have won the award since it began in 1956.
“I am honored to have received the Distinguished Service Award and have it proudly displayed in my home office,” Short said. He added, “I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed being a Lion in 2023. This is such a great group of people and I am very happy to say that I am a part of it. I see great things for this club in the future!”
