The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved disaster assistance for Kane County residents and businesses impacted by severe storms and flooding July 2–4 and July 27,Homeowners, renters, businesses and certain nonprofit organizations may qualify for low-interest disaster loans to help cover damage and losses not covered by insurance.
Homeowners may qualify for up to $500,000 to repair or replace damaged real estate, while homeowners and renters may qualify for up to $100,000 for damaged personal property. Businesses and certain nonprofits may borrow up to $2 million for physical damages and may also qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans to address financial losses.
For the July 2–4 storms, the deadline to apply for physical damage is Monday, Oct. 5, and the deadline for economic injury applications is Friday, May 5, 2027. For the July 27 storm, the physical damage application deadline is Monday, Oct. 19, and the EIDL deadline is Tuesday, May 18, 2027.
A Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) has been established in Kane County to assist residents and businesses. SBA customer service representatives are available to answer questions, explain the application process and help applicants complete their applications. Walk-ins are welcome at Elgin Township Building, 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin, through Tuesday, Sept. 1. Monday–Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday: Closed

Illinois is offering temporary tax relief to individuals and businesses in 15 counties affected by severe summer storms, including Kane County for storms occurring July 2–4. Eligible taxpayers may request a waiver of penalties and interest if the storms prevented them from filing returns or making tax payments on time. Relief applies to income, withholding, sales, specialty and excise taxes. To request relief, taxpayers should provide a brief written explanation to the Illinois Department of Revenue by emailing REV.DisasterRelief@Illinois.gov or submitting a request by mail.
