Plano’s inaugural Juneteenth celebration Saturday includes the band E-Minor at Emily G. Johns School. Juneteenth recently has been declared a Federal and State holiday. The Plano City Council was the first this year to recognize the day as a holiday. Jamal Williams, the first African-American alderman in the city of Plano, made a motion February 22, which was seconded and approved for Juneteenth to be recognized as a paid holiday in Plano.
