Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley (DCFV) were informed about the Kane County Health Department’s “Diabetes – Live Well Kane County” informational website and the Health Department’s goals to improve the overall health of Kane County residents at the Club’s monthly meeting, held Thursday, June 8, at the historic Gray’s Mill Estate, in Montgomery.
Guest speaker, Michael Isaacson, executive director of the Kane County Health Department, stated that the Kane County Health Department works at the population level, not the personal level. However, if individual call for help, they will be referred to the proper agency for assistance. Isaacson stated that every three years they do a comprehensive review of the Department. The latest review found three main areas that will be their focus: 1.) Mental Health; 2.) Access to Health Care; 3.) NEW (Nutrition, Exercise, and Weight) risk factors. Isaacson said the Kane County Health Department is on Facebook, and its website: www.livewellkanecounty.com is loaded with information, including diabetes facts, and resources. He gave everyone in attendance the County’s handout related to diabetes.
The newly-formed Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is getting acquainted with various organizations in the Fox Valley area, which provide services to diabetics, to see how we can be of help.
The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a true grassroots organization, where all money raised through dues, donations, and fundraising, is used locally within the Fox Valley area, to support the Club’s diabetic causes. There are 46 members, who meet monthly the second Thursday of each month at the historic Gray’s Mill Estate.

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is offering membership in the Club through September 30, for $25, giving individuals interested in joining our fight against diabetes an opportunity to look us over, while participating in Club activities throughout the Summer months.
