The United States will make a landmark appearance at the World Championship of Indoor Freediving in Belgrade, Serbia, June 21-27.
Katie Kleinwachter, aka TEAM USA, and two-time United States record-holder, will become the first United States athlete to participate at a CMAS (World Confederation of Underwater Activities) Indoor World Championship.
She is from Warrenville, and a graduate of both Wheaton Warrenville South High School and Benedictine University. She trains and lives in Spain, where she is a team captain.
Trailblazing in a sport relatively unknown in the United States, Katie is seeking funds to help with her training, travel, diet, and equipment needs.
“It’s been a dream and now, I am going to the world stage!” Kleinwatcher said. “In a sport with a long history in Europe, I will be the first American ever to participate in an indoor world championship.”
She can be followed in her action, on Facebook and Instagram @USFreediving and Katie’s page @only100yrs with “Road to the World Championship” content on the training and behind-the-scenes action once we’ve arrived.
