Kendall County TRIAD offers four events each year

Kendall County TRIAD thanks those businesses and individuals who offer support to senior citizens by helping to offer educational opportunities for older adults to learn more about fraud prevention strategies.

Kendall County TRIAD is a community service organization focused on reducing criminal victimization of the elderly. TRIAD promotes fire safety, and fire prevention, while offering community activities throughout the year to help seniors learn more about safety and to help them play an active role in crime prevention.

Law enforcement and fire prevention personnel as well as supportive senior provider agencies and senior citizens all volunteer time to make up TRIAD. The goal is to educate, assist, support, and unite all participants in helping senior citizens stay healthier and safer in their own homes.

TRIAD offers four regular events each year including:

1) A Spring Townhall Meeting for older adults to voice their concerns;

2) A Spring Resource Fair with many local provider agencies participating so that seniors can get one-on-one attention for their questions and concerns;

3) The annual TRIAD Summer Picnic at Harris Forest Preserve in June; and

4) A Fall Scam Academy held to provide the most up to date information to held keep seniors and their families safe from scams and fraud.

More than 100 senior citizens participated in the 2023 Annual TRIAD Picnic at Harris Forest Preserve in Yorkville. One lucky winner took home $128 from the 50/50 raffle. Attendees were served a freshly-prepared lunch, including grilled hamburgers, chips, cole slaw, and baked beans by participating police and fire personnel. Several local businesses helped make the picnic a success, including Kendall Meat Company which donated 122 burgers, Steve & Sandy Grebner who provided raffle gift cards and additional hamburger patties, Oswego Fire Protection District which supplied a Gator to help transport seniors from their vehicles to the picnic site, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office supplied the outdoor grill, DMJ Home Health provided 10 $10 gift cards, The following businesses donated gift cards and gift bags valued at $10 each: Allied First Bank, Barb Weber, expRealty – The Kearns Team, Hillside Helie Healthcare, The Reserve at Oswego, Alden of Waterford, Lighthouse Hospice, and Bardwell Residences.

The next TRIAD event will be the Scam Awareness Seminar, Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Oswegoland Senior and Community Center (OSCC). Doors will open at 9:30 a.m., with sessions starting at 10 a.m.. The sessions include Medicare Scams – Senior Medicare Patrol by Age Guide and Senior Services Associates, Inc.; Financial Scams & Identity Theft Tips from Linda Radecki of Allied First Bank; Current Scams and Tips from law enforcement by Deputy Paul Kubinski of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office; Scams on Veterans with information from the Kendall County Veterans Assistance Commission, and Fire Safety with Oswego Fire Protection District. Question and Answer and a Free Lunch provided by Asbury Gardens follow. Attendees must register by Wednesday, Oct. 4 to attend in person. There is a Zoom option.
