League of Women Voters: Hybrid forum September 18

The League of Women Voters chapters falling within the Illinois Second Judicial District is a partner with the DuPage NAACP to host a hybrid forum Sunday, Sept. 18 for the judicial candidates running in the November 8 General Election for Illinois Supreme Court and Illlinois Appellate Court seats. Both Appellate Court judges and Supreme Court judges are elected to 10-year terms. The Second District Appellate Court convenes in Elgin and hears cases appealed from trial courts in five counties, DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, Lake, and McHenry. The Illinois Supreme Court, which is the State’s highest court, convenes in Springfield.

Invitations to the September 18 forum were extended to Illinois Supreme Court Second District judge candidates Mark Curran Jr., (Republican and Elizabeth “Liz” Rochford, Democrat, each of whom advanced from their respective primary races.

Invitations were extended to Illinois Appellate Court Second District judge candidates Susan Clancy Boles (Republican) and Chris Kennedy (Democrat).

The Forum will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Avenue in downtown Batavia. It will be broadcast live on BATV’s Public Access Channel 17.

According to organizers, “As we have seen, judicial elections have significant and long-term implications on critical issues that directly impact the lives of voters. The League of Women Voters is proud to (be a) partner with the NAACP to bring Illinois Second District voters this important opportunity to learn more about our judicial candidates so they can make informed decisions this November.

“The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, issue-oriented organization with a long history of (being a) host to candidate forums and providing other opportunities for citizens to learn about our political process. The organization never endorses candidates.”

Here are some important dates to know for the upcoming November 8, 2022 General Election:

• September 29: First day to vote early at office of election authority.

• October 24: First day to vote early at permanent polling places.

• November 3: Last day to apply for a vote by mail ballot.

• November 8: Election Day! Polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m..
