Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley invited members of the Aurora Noon Lions Club to attend their membership meeting Thursday, Aug. 10, for a joint check presentation of $2,000 to the UChicago Medicine-Kovler Diabetes Center for diabetes research.

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley members matched a donation of $1,000 from the Aurora Noon Lions Club members for diabetes research.

Holland spoke on her experiences of being a Type 1 diabetic for 25 years, and the changes for the better since she was first diagnosed. Type 1 diabetics make No insulin, while Type 2 diabetics don’t make enough insulin. Improving diabetes can be achieved by diet and exercise. Everyone should get checked yearly to determine if they are pre-diabetic or are diabetic.

Holland is a registered nurse and certified diabetes care and education specialist. She welcomes daily opportunities to empower patients, by assisting them in building skills to manage their diabetes confidently, consistently, and serenely.

Saturday, Aug. 19, the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley will join with the Aurora Noon Lions Club at the Aurora Farmers Market, from 8 a.m. to noon. The Noon Lions Club will feature leader dogs for the blind and DCFV will be handing out literature, explaining pre-diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes.

Friday, Sept. 1, the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley will be host to “Tee Off to Defeat Diabetes” Golf Outing, at Fox Bend Golf Course, Route 34, Oswego. Registration will start at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.. Cost is $130 per golfer and includes 18 hole scramble format tournament, golf cart, lunch, buffet dinner, and prizes for course events. Social and cash bar will start at 6 p.m.. Buffet dinner will be at 7 p.m.. A buffet-dinner-only option is available at $20 per person. Basket raffles and 50/50 raffle will follow dinner.

Deadline for golf registration is August 24. Buffet-dinner only deadline is August 31.

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization that meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month at the historic Gray’s Mill Estate, 211 N. River Street, Montgomery. Social/Dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.. Guests are always welcome!
