Leslie, a senior from Aurora, was nominated by his instructors and passed all tests and interview requirements. Leslie plans to attend the University of Nebraska and major in political science. On graduation, he will be commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.

In February 2021, Leslie was among two West High students awarded AFJROTC Flight Academy Scholarships worth about $20,000 each.

The scholarship enables a student to attend a university’s Summer flight school to earn private pilots’ licenses. Leslie was among six West High students who competed for the academy scholarship

A School District 129 spokesperson said, “Matt’s accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and dedication, as well as to his family and the SD129 staff who supported him!”
