April is National Fair Housing Month, and senior citizens in Aurora will have an opportunity to apply for affordable housing.
The Fourteen Forty-Nine Senior Estates, Aurora’s newest affordable housing neighborhood for seniors, is under construction. The first units are nearing completion and will be ready for tenants soon.
Fourteen Forty-Nine Senior Estates is operated by the Aurora Housing Authority and its development arm, the Northern Lights Development Corporation. The neighborhood will have 70 brand-new single-family homes and duplexes on Aurora’s far west side. The 1 and 2 bedroom, single-story homes have attached garages. The neighborhood will include a clubhouse, a pickleball court, and more. Eligible tenants must be 62 years and older on a fixed income.
Applications are open, with the first tenants being assigned next month in May, National Affordable Housing Month.
Applications can be made online or in person:
• Online: www.nldcorp.org
• In-Person: 1449 Jericho Road, Aurora 60506
Plans are for the neighborhood to be fully constructed by the end of the year.
