Summer sports are on the horizon, however, Springs sports offer final images, championships, and honors. Schools are predominate in the Spring for many fans.

High school State champions last weekend, June 3-4, determined by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) include Metea Valley High School, based in Aurora, one of three schools in District 204 (Waubonsie Valley and Neuqua Valley are the other schools), which captured the Class 3A largest-division girls State soccer tournament, and Joliet Catholic Academy which prevailed in the Class 2A girls softball tournament. There are four classes in girls softball.

The final weekend, June 10-11 will determine the largest classes, 3A and 4A in girls softball and baseball. Softball State tournament in Peoria will include St. Charles North which won the St. Charles East Sectional. No. 6 ranked West Aurora took victories in the Yorkville 4A sectional against No. 4 Oswego, No. 1 Yorkville, and No. 2 Neuqua Valley, then fell to Edwardsville in the in super-sectional.

In Class 3A baseball, Nazareth and Crystal Lake South will play in the State semifinal Friday in Peoria. In 4A baseball, York fell in Geneva Kane County Cougars Super-sectional to McHenry.

Spring awards include five all-conference baseball players on Newark’s Little Ten Conference championship team. It Kruse-d to 16-0: Lucas Pasakarnis, senior catcher; Jake Kruser, junior outfielder; Joe Martin, junior pitcher, Tegan Kruser, senior shortstop, and Mitchell Kruser, senior first baseman.

Waubonsee Community College softball players Taylor Wyeth and Jori Peters both were named to the Skyway Conference first team and all-Region.
