The Montgomery Rotary Club is excited to announce its April in-person service projects.
Club members will spend the morning, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 17, cleaning up the Douglas Road Corridor just north of U.S. Route 30. The following Saturday, April 24, at 8 a.m., the Club will be simultaneously cleaning up in two neighborhood areas of the Village. One area will be along Briarcliff Road and the other area will be along Concord Drive.
Members of the public are welcome to participate at any of the service projects. Volunteers for the April 17 Douglas Road Clean Up must be at least 18 years old to participate. The neighborhood areas on April 24 are family friendly, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.
The environment is the newest area of focus for Rotary International. The local district consisting of 60 clubs has designated April 24 as a district wide day of environmental service. Club president and Montgomery Village trustee, Theresa Sperling said, “After so many months of seeing each other on a computer screen, our members are interested in getting back to hands-on service within our community. Prior to the pandemic, our club performed some type of service each month. These clean-up days will allow us to get out to perform service and still be able to safely see each other in person.”
The Club will provide the garbage bags and other supplies. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves or any other items that will help with cleaning up. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and should dress appropriately. Registration is required so that a club representative can contact volunteers should there be any changes to the event.
