More holiday giving good for the soul; exceeds negativity

A significant part of the holiday spirit is in giving, especially to those less fortunate.

Food pantries, charities, shelters, are sites and subjects of many individuals who have caught the spirit of giving. May we continue to understand its significance and continue selfless service.

Large organizations and individuals make the difference. Just starting out with the idea and following through offers special blessings.

One person, John Schutt, of Oswego, who writes motor sports for The Voice, took the initiative recently. He assisted in the donation of approximately 100 pounds of food to the Kendall County Community Food Pantry last week.

“The food was collected as partial entry to the Go-Kart and Mini-Bike Swap held at the Norway (Ill.) Community Center,” he wrote.

Every bit is helpful. The longest journey begins with the first step.

The spirit of the holidays includes seeking to find common ground with someone, or a group, with which there may be little agreement. Adapting to polarization is not productive. Pulling at the end of the rope that another is pulling in the opposite direction is counter-productive. If only we can see the wisdom of finding the commonality and not the differences.

• Communities which continually seek to find solutions reach their destinations much more quickly. Many communities conducted Thanksgiving police enforcement of drivers, assisted by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The program theme nationwide is “Click It or Ticket.”

Oswego is one community which made reports. See page 7.

Naperville is another community. Naperville Police issued 57 seat-belt and child-safety violation citations November 22-December 2 There were three impaired-driving arrests, 17 speeding citations, four uninsured motorist citations, and two suspended/revoked-license citations.

The program is part of federal highway safety funds. Another theme is
“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

• Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of person or persons responsible for a business burglary at the Corner Pantry, 1801 Wehrli Road, in Naperville December 1 at approximately 6 a.m..

• Aurora Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 cash and anonymity for those who furnish information leading to the arrest of a homicide in the 700 block of Fifth Street at 2:30 a.m. during Thanksgiving Day.

• Crime of any magnitude only is senseless and distracts from offering a sense of spirituality to the communities. It can drag down others who need a sense of uplifting. Coming to that realization can prevent a sense of desperation. More spirituality is needed.
