Working in partnership with the national nonprofit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), the Naperville Professional Firefighters for a Cause (NPFFC) and the Naperville Fire Department are helping to provide children in need a comfortable place to rest. NPFFC and the Naperville Fire Department aim to bring SHP’s motto, “No Child Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town,” to the Naperville community by building and delivering 40 beds to children this Summer and Fall.

Volunteers are needed to help at a bed-building event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Naperville Fire Station 4, 1971 Brookdale Road. Financial and in-kind donations from individuals and businesses are greatly needed and appreciated.

In addition to lacking food and clothing, many children in need go without a bed, or even a pillow, to sleep on, according to SHP. This can affect their happiness and well-being. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a growing organization with chapters in many states that builds, assembles and delivers bunk beds to families in need.

“As firefighters and paramedics, we have a lens into areas of need in the community that many people don’t see,” said Naperville firefighter/paramedic Phil Carmody, who is one of the event organizers and active in NPFFC. “NPFFC members have the opportunity to develop strong relationships in the community, which has helped us find paths to support those needs. We are honored to partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to bring their mission to the Naperville community.”
