Naperville Public Safety Open House September 21

The Naperville Police and Fire Departments invite all residents to attend the annual Public Safety Open House taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Naperville’s Public Safety Campus, 1380 Aurora Avenue.

The whole family can enjoy the fun and educational day, which will feature a variety of activities and demonstrations by Naperville’s first responders. Demonstrations will begin at 10:45 a.m. and include a flashover fire room demonstration and a training exercise in which a Lifestar helicopter will land and emergency personnel perform an auto extrication with a simulated intoxicated driver arrest. In addition, the Naperville Police Department’s K9 unit and Special Response Team will show their talents, and the joint police/fire water rescue team will participate in their debut demonstration.

During this event, participants will have the opportunity to view and interact with police and fire equipment and vehicles, take home fire safety and crime prevention information, and meet Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog. The open house will feature a children’s identification fingerprinting station, and a forensics booth. Food trucks will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Stop, Drop and Run 5K preceding the open house will be at 8 a.m..
