The State of Illinois is sending a National Guard unit to help at the Aurora COVID-19 vaccination site. Currently, seven members of the National Guard are stationed at the Aurora location.
The additional 18-member Illinois National Guard unit will arrive at the Aurora location April 27. The Aurora vaccination site is at 970 North Lake Street. It is open by appointment only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
“We are grateful for the Illinois National Guard and their assistance at the Aurora-Kane Vax vaccination site,” said Kane County Board chairman Corinne Pierog. “We have experienced an increase in demand from residents in Aurora at the site, and we want to be sure we meet the demand. The Illinois National Guard will be on-site to provide additional assistance to the Kane County Health Department and our partners in an effort to vaccinate everyone. We must put more vaccines in arms to stop the spread of COVID-19. We continue to be committed to serving the residents of Aurora and Kane County, especially the underserved areas that have experienced the greatest impact of this pandemic. We want to see everyone having access to the vaccine and getting vaccinated.”
“One of the best aspects of our soldiers and airmen in this fight against COVID-19 is their adaptability,” said Major General Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard. “We, in the military, are constantly asked to adapt to change – to find new and improved ways to accomplish tasks. We take that experience into every fight. Quickly adapting to ever-changing circumstance is a special skill our Illinois National Guard soldiers and airmen bring to the people of Kane County. I am immensely proud of their selfless sacrifice and the support they provide to the people across the great state of Illinois.”
A team of nurse vaccinators will come with the National Guard to help meet the public demand, along with additional vaccine. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are continually made available at all mass vaccination sites in Aurora, Batavia, and Elgin.
“The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are administered to millions of people, and they are saving lives every day. We would like to encourage everyone 16 years and older to please register for an appointment and get vaccinated,” Pierog said.
